Sometimes I feel like bursting into song with Julie Andrews as she sings “These are a Few of My Favorite Things”. I can see or feel something that suddenly brings back a memory and I am instantly filled with joy. I’m smiling. I begin to daydream!! If no one is looking, I might be tempted to twirl!
I decided to record my favorites and like Maria Von Trapp, when I’m feeling blue, I should just remember these things…
Sheets hanging on a clothesline
Chasing fireflies
Hummingbirds darting from flower to flower
Listening to waves on the beach
Endless hours of scrapbooking
Antique silverware
Wooden floors with an occasional creak
The smell of a new book
Finding the record of an ancestor
Cloth napkins
Porch swings
Hanging petunia baskets
Old barns with faded advertisements on the side
Riding the train
Mango smoothies
Spending hours in a library

Ohhh! I didn’t think about bird songs after a rain! Quick…I need to add that to my list. That made me remember the sounds of crickets. We don’t have those where I live 😦 This is too much fun! Our lists could be endless…

Ah, such a great list. I love going to antique stores, not to buy but to see the things from the past. I will make a list in the future. I did a list like this once to give my daughters ideas for gifts which they had been nagging me about. The first thing on that list was colors.

I added antique silverware to my list several years ago. I had seen a beautiful table setting where each plate was set with a different china pattern and different silverware. My heart melted! To this day, I linger in antique stores just to dream…no purchases…but dreams make me just as happy!
Before my mother died she told me I had enough things, so she had given her wedding silver to a neighbor. Uhhh, that hurt! Good thing I love visiting silver in stores and magazines!!

Definitely can agree with you on old barns with faded advertisements, those are so cool. Antique silverware, I have an old salt/pepper shaker that is silver and antique. (as far as I know anyway) I paid 25¢ for it and have only used it as a paper weight, so if you want I will bring it up next time we come. When we went with my Aunt to an Antique Fair, a guy had TONS of antique silver silver wear… And he was destroying it and melting it down into blocks!!! Needless to say, I wasn’t to thrilled. When my Aunt started talking to him and told him her car (which I really like) was for sale, and he seemed interested in buying it, I almost blurted out, “Are you going to take a hammer to that and melt it down as well?” Fortunately I was able to keep my mouth shut.

I guess I could add that to a list of things I’ve learned to do: keeping my mouth shut!! Part of growing up, Ethan! Ha, but I’ve slipped a couple of times, too!

Love your list. I do a gratitude practice each morning and, in reflection, I realize they often include my favorite things (and sometimes things I’m not loving in the moment and wanting to see differently). My favs include my bird visitors, being able to create something new, my kitties, having my own space including an office.
